How I got into pool...
I played for the first time when I was 8 on Saturdays for a month
because my dad wanted to teach me… so not very long. Some of my
favorite memories growing up were Saturday afternoons with my dad. He
had these videos of Mike Sigel, Jimmy Fusco, Nick Varner, Wade Crane,
and Jimmy Mataya playing in a ring game or doing tricks shots. I would
always want to watch them and never get tired of seeing them over and
over again. Plus I got to watch them with my dad and enjoy that time
with him.
Then when I was in about the 8th grade I picked it up again. I played
in free tournaments at the Great Entertainer in San Francisco (when it
was still there) against other kids in the area every Saturday.
That’s how it all began… I met all sorts of people and
later on I heard more about where I should be playing and also what
other tournaments were out there. I’ve been competing ever since!
I’ve found myself driving from Carson City to Sacramento to
Monterey for tournaments. It never gets old.
What lies ahead...
I obviously love pool, but I think I owe it to myself to take some time
and try this pro thing out some time. It’s a chance for me to see
where I “stack up” against the competition and push myself
to play at my best, whatever that may be. If I find it’s not for
me then I’ll do something else. At least I’d know that I
tried to live my dream and not live the rest of my life wondering about
what it would have been like if I had gone pro.
